Fossacolle is a relatively young estate for Brunello di Montalcino, having had its first vintage of Brunello in 1997. It is small, with a total area of four hectares (about 10 acres). It produces small quantities of both Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. It is part of the Vias Imports portfolio.
The Rosso di Montalcino comes from young vines that technically are in the Brunello zone. After stainless steel fermentation, the wine is transferred to concrete, where malo completes, and then into large and small wood for a total aging time of about a year.
The Brunello di Montalcino is fermented in stainless and in wood fermenters, then it’s sent to large and small wood for two years, followed by a year in concrete before it’s bottled.
It is completely a family-run business, including all the vineyard, cellar and commercial work.
