Our company was early on the Austrian wine scene with the assumption of the VinDivino Austrian portfolio, in 2003. We felt that these wines were the next “thing” to be of interest with the buying public. Perhaps we were a bit ahead of the trends, but the famous names (and the high prices) of those wines never really caught on in Virginia.
Some years later, Rob and Beth traveled to Prowein to examine the Austrian wine industry and determine if there was a fantastic grower among the legions of wineries at the massive trade show with whom would make sense to establish a direct relationship. Requirements: great pricing, famous appellation, and an honest flavor profile relative to the varietal and its terroir. There was no question: Hollerer was number one. And an added plus: Alois Hollerer attended the University of Illinois and was quite comfortable working with Americans. It has been a fantastic relationship and we look forward to working with his wines for many years to come.
