Castellare di Castellina in Chianti Classico completed a joint venture with Barons de Rothschild in 2000 and created the Rocca di Frassinello estate. Knowing that a large track of top quality land was next to impossible to find in central Tuscany, they worked with geologists to source land in Maremma, in south Tuscany, near the Bolgheri and Scansano wine regions. They eventually found prime land in the area called Monteregio di Massa Marittima.
A beautiful modern winery was designed and built on the property. As the vines age, the wines continue their progress toward more complexity. Primarily, three level of wine is made, but all contain a Super-Tuscan blend of Sangioveto, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We visited, for the first time, in 2008 and were blown away what rose from the grasslands of the Maremma in southwestern Tuscany.
Winemaking teams from Bordeaux work closely with the Italian team to create these wines.
Rocca di Frassinello is part of the Vias Imports portfolio of Italian wines.
