Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken is now operating its 10th and 11th generations by Hanno and daughter Dorothee Zilliken in the village of Saarburg in the Saar, a tributary of the Mosel. Zilliken is unquestionably the top winery of this region. The Zillikens have the best sections of the Grand Cru Rausch vineyard, as well as a smaller portion in the Ockfener Bockstein.
The wines are beyond sublime in their textural qualities, and complex aromas and flavors, from Kabinett to TBA.
Their winery lies in three dark levels inconspicuously below their home. Each levels seems to be darker, colder and wetter than the one above. It was established after the war when the original winery was destroyed by Allied bombing and new one dug in a safer place for winemaking. Eventually, a home was built on top of it.
Zilliken is part of the Rudi Wiest Selections portfolio of top German estates.
