Camigliano
Italy, Tuscany
Green Status: Biodynamic

Camigliano is a Brunello producer and important part of the Vias portfolio of Italian wines. The Ghezzi family acquired the property in 1957 and has grown it into one of the largest producers of estate Brunello. Ninety of the 530 hectares is planted with vineyards and 50 of these go towards production of 180,000 bottles of Brunello. Although Camigliano produces many wines, we have chosen to work mainly with the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino “Gualto” DOCG Riserva, and Rosso di Montalcino DOC. Large neutral Slavonian oak casks are used to age the wine, but impart little oak flavor so that the resulting wine tastes of its place within Tuscany. It is known as one of the warmest sites with the Brunello DOCG and does particularly well in cooler vintages.

The hamlet of Camigliano, to the southwest of Montalcino, seems to be completely owned by the Ghezzi family, who also host an agritourismo with four ancient farmhouses which have been restored. Many members of our sales team have fond memories of shooting pool late into the night with Senor Ghezzi and his family, and not-so-fond memories of the scary-to-navigate walled road to enter the village!
