The Faraud family has been tending 16 hectares 40 km northeast of Avignon for since 1936.  The fifth generation, sisters Delphine, Cedrine, and Roseline now run the estate and spend a great deal of time in the vineyard, restricting yields and always hand harvesting the grapes at their maximum ripeness. The grapes are hand pressed in an ancient wood press and the wine then rests in old wood tanks for up to a year before it is bottled. The Farauds never fine or filter their Gigondas and the ripe black fruit flavors found in their wine is always tempered by a profoundly complex expression of the terroir. This is considered by many a benchmark winery of the appellation.
