Clos du Prieur
France, Languedoc

We worked with the Orliac family early in our company’s existence, but I think we both were frustrated that this work was through an agent and the relationship eventually ended.  Luckily for us, the brand came available to us directly in 2016 and now we have recultivated the relationship.  In the family’s own words:

“During the 1970s, Jean Orliac had graduated from Montpellier's Agricultural College. He was a huge lover of rock climbing, high mountains and wild land. Then he discovered the Hortus and Pic Saint Loup cliffs forming a belt around the little Famb é tou coomb. All he found were abandoned land parcels and fallow ground, yet it seemed obvious to him that these scree covered slopes had huge potential. Thus it was that with huge enthusiasm, but with hardly a cent to his name, a story was born.  In the early days, only four hectares (10 acres) were cleared and planted. In that he was anxious to get to know this unknown land, it was 15 years before he produced his first wine, the 1990 vintage.

And whilst the vineyard was taking root, a house and wine cellars were built, all in a style which combined modern architecture with the countryside's tradition.

As time went on, his four children returned to the fold, bringing their individual personalities and experience.”

The Domaine produces several quality levels of red, white and rosé wines, and we have selected a nice representation of all of them.  We are so pleased to be working again with the Orliacs!
